BOI Promotion & Investment Incentives

BOI promotion is Thailand's investment incentive from the Board of Investment (BOI): up to 13 years without corporate income tax, duty-free machinery, majority foreign ownership, and faster visas. When Thailand is competing with Vietnam or Indonesia for your investment, the tier you secure matters, and a rejected application sets your project back.

What You Get

Get the most from your BOI incentives

  • The right incentive tier

We match your investment, jobs, and research and development (R&D) plans against the current BOI criteria to secure the best corporate income tax (CIT) exemption tier, from A1+ to A4.

  • Application preparation

A detailed project proposal, financial projections, investment plan, and evidence for extra merit-based incentives, built to pass BOI review.

  • SME measure for Thai-owned companies

A 5-year CIT exemption capped at 100% of the investment for qualifying Thai-majority SMEs within the BOI size limits. Faster review and lighter reporting.

  • Annual compliance and reporting

We file the BOI reports, track investment milestones, and notify the BOI of material changes, so you keep your exemption for its full term.

How It Works

Our Process

A clear, structured approach from start to finish.

  1. Step 1:Eligibility assessment

We check your activities against the current list of BOI-promoted activities and identify your likely tier and any extra merit-based incentives.

  2. Step 2:Application documents

We draft the project proposal, financial projections, and supporting documents to BOI standards.

  3. Step 3:Submission

We submit the application to the BOI, which starts its evaluation.

  4. Step 4:Review and approval

We answer BOI questions, arrange any site visit, and receive your BOI promotion certificate.

  5. Step 5:After approval

We set up the CIT exemption with the Revenue Department (RD), handle visas and work permits through the BOI one-stop center, prepare customs documents, and keep up with annual BOI compliance.

How BOI advisors compare

A rejected application, or one approved at a lower tier than you could have had, is the most expensive outcome. Here is how advisors compare on the factors that decide approval and the value of your exemption.

Who this is for

Who qualifies for BOI promotion?

BOI promotion depends on what your company does, not on its size. You may qualify if one of these situations sounds like yours.

  • Foreign manufacturers or software companies considering Thailand for a plant or a Bangkok development team: tiers A2 and A3 give 8 or 5 years of CIT exemption plus import duty relief on machinery, often the deciding factor for a regional investment committee.
  • Thai family-owned SME manufacturers investing in automation: the BOI SME measure improved on 19 May 2025 raised the CIT exemption from 3 years capped at 50% of the investment to 5 years capped at 100%.
  • Investors planning a data center in Thailand: the BOI's data center rules, revised in 2025, give 5 or 8 years of CIT exemption depending on energy-efficiency and technology criteria.
  • Multinationals choosing between Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand for a regional shared-services hub: B-tier non-tax incentives and fast-track work permits keep Thailand competitive even without a CIT exemption.
  • Projects in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC: Chonburi, Rayong, and Chachoengsao): an EEC location can add incentives on top of the base tier, such as extra exemption years or a reduced CIT rate after the exemption ends.
  • Existing Thai companies planning a new investment, such as more capacity, a technology upgrade, or a second plant, that can qualify for BOI incentives.
  • Export-oriented manufacturers: on top of the CIT exemption, BOI promotion can exempt raw materials used in export production from import duty.

About our team

The right route first

Plizz checks BOI, the Treaty of Amity, and the FBL, in that order, before every engagement. A US founder is never sold a BOI application when the Treaty of Amity fits and costs a fraction of it.

Applications built for approval

Careful preparation and a working knowledge of how the BOI evaluates projects, including merit-based incentives for R&D, EEC location, and local development, help you secure the best tier.

The 36-month deadline, tracked

Our compliance service tracks the deadline to start operations and prepares any extension request 90 days in advance, because losing the CIT exemption retroactively is the most expensive mistake a BOI company can make.

One team after approval

Bookkeeping that separates promoted and non-promoted income, half-year and annual CIT filings, visas and work permits through the BOI one-stop center, and the BOI reports are all handled by one team within Plizz Group.
