Visa & Work Permit

Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa in Thailand

The LTR visa gives you up to 10 years in Thailand, a digital work permit where your category allows it, and, for Highly-Skilled Professionals, a 17% flat income tax. We prepare the application, set up the tax benefits, and keep your current visa valid while the Board of Investment (BOI) reviews your file.

What You Get

What the LTR visa gives you

  • Up to 10 years of residence

A 5-year visa, extendable once for another 5 years. No yearly extensions, multiple re-entry included, and address reporting once a year instead of every 90 days.

  • 17% flat personal income tax

Highly-Skilled Professionals pay 17% on Thai employment income, instead of progressive rates up to 35%. Other LTR categories are exempt from Thai tax on income earned abroad.

  • Your family included

Your spouse and dependent children can join you on LTR dependent visas, with wider rules since 2025. Your spouse can obtain work authorization in qualifying categories.

  • Digital work permit

No paper work permit book. Where your category includes work rights, the permit is digital, and changing jobs involves far less paperwork than on a standard Non-B.

  • A base for permanent residence

Years of stable LTR residence and tax filings in Thailand strengthen a later application for permanent residence.

How It Works

Our Process

A clear, structured approach from start to finish.

  1. Step 1:Eligibility and category

We compare your assets, income, employer, or pension against all four LTR categories and recommend the strongest one.

  2. Step 2:Financial evidence

We organize the evidence of qualifying assets, pension income, or employer credentials, and coordinate your Thai investment documents where required.

  3. Step 3:Application file and translation

We prepare the full file to BOI requirements and have every foreign-language document professionally translated into Thai.

  4. Step 4:BOI filing and review

We submit online at ltr.boi.go.th, then deliver the original documents; we track progress and answer any BOI questions.

  5. Step 5:Visa issue and benefits

Once approved, we set up the 17% tax rate in payroll where it applies, the digital work permit, and the reporting calendar for the full 10-year term.

Who this is for

Who qualifies for the LTR visa?

The LTR has four categories: Wealthy Global Citizen, Wealthy Pensioner, Work-from-Thailand Professional, and Highly-Skilled Professional. The 2025 amendments opened each of them to more applicants.

  • Remote professionals earning at least USD 80,000 a year from a foreign employer with revenue above USD 50 million (the 2025 threshold, down from USD 150 million), who want to report once a year instead of every 90 days
  • Retirees aged 50 or over with at least USD 80,000 of annual pension or passive income, who make Thailand their permanent base and want to stop renewing a Non-OA retirement visa every year
  • Investors with at least USD 1 million in assets who will place USD 500,000 in Thai government bonds, Thai property, or direct investment in Thailand: since 2025, the Wealthy Global Citizen category has no income requirement
  • Highly-skilled specialists in targeted industries (biotech, aviation, robotics, digital, fintech, and others) who want the 17% flat personal income tax on Thai employment income; the work-experience requirement was removed in 2025
  • Current Smart Visa T, I, or E holders whose category no longer takes new applications: the LTR is the natural 10-year successor, and because the switch takes time, start well before your visa expires
  • Families where both partners want to work: the 2025 amendments widened the rules for dependents, and spouses can obtain work authorization in qualifying categories
  • Long-term Non-B holders (5 years or more) looking for more stability: the LTR gives up to 10 years of residence without yearly renewals

About our team

Up to date with the 2025 rules

We work with the January 2025 amendments: wider family rules, a lower Work-from-Thailand employer threshold (USD 50 million, down from USD 150 million), and no experience requirement for Highly-Skilled Professionals. Many people who were not eligible before now qualify.

A bridge-visa plan in every engagement

BOI endorsement takes time. If you are on a tourist visa, DTV, or Non-B while you apply, it may expire during processing. We plan the bridge from day one, so you never overstay while the LTR is pending.

The 17% rate set up from your first payroll

The 17% flat tax for Highly-Skilled Professionals only helps if your employer applies it in payroll withholding and in your tax filings. We set this up alongside the final visa step, so the rate applies from your first payroll month.

Your family in one quote

We quote the whole family upfront (spouse and dependent children under your application), with no surprise per-dependent fees at filing.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions before and during engagement.

Work-from-Thailand Professional (WFTP): what your work permit covers

The WFTP category allows remote work for your foreign employer only; it does not cover work for Thai companies or clients. If a Thai client offers you work while you hold WFTP status, you need a separate work permit from the Department of Employment before you accept. This is the most misunderstood part of the WFTP category, so we explain it at the eligibility stage.

Will your current visa run out during the LTR application?

BOI endorsement for the LTR takes time. If you are on a tourist visa, DTV, or Non-B, it may expire before the LTR is issued. An expired visa means overstay, which brings fines (THB 500 per day) and can complicate the LTR itself. We plan the bridge from day one: we extend your current visa, obtain a new Non-B, or arrange a multiple-entry tourist visa, so you never overstay while BOI reviews your file.

Comparison

Plizz vs the alternatives

ApproachWhat you getThe risk
DIY via ltr.boi.go.thSave agent feesNo bridge-visa plan; missing documents stall the BOI review; the 17% tax rate is not set up in payroll. A rejection sends you back to the Non-B route.
Low-cost visa agentLower cost; handles the paperworkNo tax planning. The agent does not look at how the LTR affects your payroll, Thai investment, or foreign-income exemption. You get the visa but may miss the tax benefit.
Large law firmLarge team, strong reputationRight for immigration linked to M&A or complex cross-border files. Expensive for a single applicant or a family with straightforward finances.
PlizzImmigration, tax setup, and Thai investment coordination in one engagementYou get the visa, the tax benefit, and a correctly structured investment, with one team accountable for immigration, tax, and legal work.
