Work Permit Application in Thailand

A Thai work permit is the document that lets a foreigner work legally in Thailand, for one named employer and position. Your start date depends on it, and your employer may not yet qualify to sponsor you. We check eligibility on day one, file the visa and permit in the right order, and confirm in writing when you can legally start.

How It Works

Our Process

A clear, structured approach from start to finish.

  1. Step 1:Employer eligibility

Before we prepare anything, we confirm paid-up capital (THB 2 million per foreign employee), 4 Thai employees per foreigner, and the company's Social Security Office (SSO) registration.

  2. Step 2:Position review

We confirm the job is not one reserved for Thai nationals under the Ministry of Labor list, and that the job description explains why the company needs a foreign employee.

  3. Step 3:Application and DOE filing

We assemble the full file (employment contract, job description, company financial statements, and your qualifications), translate it, and submit it to the Department of Employment. Processing time depends on the authority and on your documents.

  4. Step 4:Issue and renewals

The DOE issues your e-WorkPermit, valid for up to 2 years and never longer than your visa. We file each renewal 30 to 60 days before expiry and recheck the employer's capital and staff ratio every time.

Who this is for

Who needs a Thai work permit?

Any foreigner who works in Thailand, paid or unpaid, as a manager or a specialist, needs a valid work permit from the Department of Employment.

  • New foreign hire at a Thai company: you have accepted the offer and agreed a start date. Now you need to know what the permit requires and whether your employer is eligible. The 4:1 staff ratio may be a problem nobody has spotted yet.
  • Foreign founder working in your own Thai company: even as a director and shareholder, managing the business without a work permit is an offence. Owning the company does not replace a work permit.
  • Consultant on a long assignment in Bangkok: if you do the work in Thailand, it counts as work under Thai law, whatever your contract says, and you need a work permit.
  • First foreign hire at a Thai SME: your employer has never sponsored a work permit. Plizz checks paid-up capital (THB 2 million per foreign employee), the 4:1 staff ratio, and SSO registration before any form is filed.
  • Hire at a BOI-promoted company: you still need a work permit, but it is filed through the BOI one-stop center with your visa. It is faster, and the 4:1 ratio and THB 2 million capital rule do not apply to BOI-approved positions.
  • Foreign employee changing jobs in Thailand: the work permit names one employer. You need a new permit and cannot work for the new employer until it is issued. Every day worked before that is an offence, so the timing must be exact.

About our team

Company check before filing

The DOE turns applications away at the counter when the employer fails the staff ratio or capital check, and that causes delays. Our company review finds these gaps before any form leaves our office.

Your legal start date, in writing

Working even one day before the permit is issued is an offence: a fine of THB 5,000 to 50,000 and possible deportation for you, and a fine of THB 10,000 to 100,000 per foreign worker for your employer. We confirm in writing the date you can legally start.

Bundle by default: at least THB 10,000 saved per new hire

Buying the Non-B visa and work permit separately costs from THB 45,000. The bundle is THB 35,000 and keeps both filings in the right order. We apply it for every new hire unless the visa is already in place.

Renewals and accounts on one calendar

Each renewal needs the employer's latest financial statements. If the audit runs late, the renewal is blocked, and so is the visa extension that depends on it. Plizz's accounting and immigration teams share one compliance calendar, so no renewal misses its window.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions before and during engagement.

The 4:1 staff ratio: a common and expensive surprise

Your employer has 3 Thai employees and files your work permit application. The DOE rejects it on the spot: not enough Thai staff. Before filing again, your employer must hire a fourth Thai employee, register them with the SSO, and wait for them to appear in SSO records. Meanwhile, you are in Thailand on a 90-day Non-B visa, your start date has passed, and every week of delay costs both sides. Our company review finds the gap before the visa is even filed, so it is fixed before it becomes a crisis.

How Plizz compares

Plizz compared with the alternatives

Working without a valid permit is an offence. The real difference between the options is not speed: it is who spots an employer eligibility problem before it becomes yours.
